Profile
Dr. Madhavi Reddy is Professor and Head at the Department of Media and Communication Studies. She is also the Director of the School of Communication and Information Sciences, and Director in charge of the Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMMRC), Pune. She was an Erasmus+ Faculty Fellow at the Department of Communication at the University of Aegean, Greece in summer of 2022; TATA fellow, Film Preservation and Restoration Programme of Film Heritage Foundation in 2019; Winner of the National Award from the President of India for a short film titled 'Matitali Kusti' (Mud Wrestling) on behalf of Department in 2017; and the ICCR Chair in Indian Studies at the University of Tübingen, Germany in Spring–Summer of 2013. Dr. Reddy taught at Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, and SNDT University before joining Pune University. Her teaching and research experience spans over two decades at the postgraduate level, focusing on Media and technology, cultural studies, Semiotics, Indian Cinema and Media archiving practices. Her notable research projects include UGC-DAAD-funded 'Sociology of Internet Usage in India and Germany, and European Union-funded Cultural Heritage and Identities of Europe's Future. She is currently researching ICCR’s major project on ‘Digitization and Archiving of the Materiality of Indian Cinema.
