Dr. Madhavi Reddy is Professor and Head of Department of Media and Communication Studies, Savitribai Phule Pune University. She holds a Ph.D. in Political Communication and a Masters in Communication and Journalism from Sri Padmavati University, Tirupati (A.P.). Her Ph.D. dissertation dealt with the Role of Political advertisements in determining Voting Behaviour.
Before joining S.P.P. U, she worked as Assistant Professor at Tata Institute of Social Sciences , Mumbai (2000-2004) and also at the Department of Communication Media for Children, S.N.D.T. University (2004-2008). She has published her research papers in many national and international journals and also edited two books titled 'Metamorphosis of New Media and Digital Culture' and 'Changing Media & Changing Audiences'. She has presented her research at several international platforms including Chulalongkorn University of Thailand, University of Tübingen and University of Hamburg in Germany, Hong Kong Baptist University and University of Leicester, U.K.
Dr. Reddy was selected as 'Rotating Chair Professor' to teach at the Institute of Media Studies, Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen, Germany in 2013 by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, New Delhi (ICCR).
Her research agenda is focused on: Gender Politics in the Public Sphere, Indian Cinema, New Media and Young Audiences. She is currently working as a Principal Investigator for the UGC-DAAD major project on 'Sociology of Young Internet users in India & Germany' and also for BCUD minor project on 'Representation of Disability in Mainstream Hindi Cinema'.
