  1. I have appeared for the final graduation exam and am waiting for my results. Can I apply?

    Yes of course. You can definitely apply for the entrance examination. And if you get selected through the entrance examination, you will be given a provisional admission till your final results are declared. Your admission is confirmed only if you pass the graduation examination.

  2. How do I apply?

    You can apply ONLY through the ONLINE mode. Please go to pgadmissions.unipune.ac.in. Go to M.Sc. courses in the list. Click and follow the instructions. They are simple. Once you fill up the online admission form, take the print out of the same, stick your latest photo on it, get it attested, attach photocopies of the required documents, attach the demand draft of the appropriate amount and send all that to us by post/courier at the earliest. Our address is - Department of Media and Communication Studies, Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune -400 007. You will get the admit card from us and even if you do not get it in time, don't wait for it. Just come to the Department for the examination. And feel free to contact us if you have any difficulty.

  3. What is the general nature of the entrance exam?

    The entrance examination is a test of your general knowledge, current affairs and expression - written and oral. The first paper is for 40 marks and it is based on objective type questions. The paper includes questions on various aspects of general knowledge, media awareness and a bit on mathematics and logic. There is no negative marking. The descriptive paper for 60 marks is also a test of your general knowledge, awareness about contemporary issues besides your comprehension, and writing abilities.

  4. How do I prepare for the entrance exam?

    If you have been reading the newspaper, watching variety of TV programmes and listening to radio regularly, then you have already started preparing. And if you are a good film buff, avid internet user and following contemporary issues, your chances of clearing the examination are brighter. There is no specific syllabus for the entrance exam. There cannot be one for general knowledge and social-cultural awareness. However, for the purpose of examination you can brush up your knowledge by reading yearbooks and magazines. And of course, you could also watch more TV, more films. Just remember, you need to be articulate also.

  5. Can I attempt the written examination in languages other than English?

    Yes. Besides English, you can write the descriptive paper in Marathi or Hindi as well. However, the medium of instruction and examination for the course later on is only English.

  6. I am from outside Pune. Will I get hostel if I get admission in the Department?

    There are only limited seats for Indian students of the Department in University hostels for boys and girls. The admissions to the hostel are given on the basis of performance in the entrance examination and are subject to the rules and regulations of the hostel administration. The hostel admission process takes a few weeks for completion. Therefore students are advised to come prepared to stay on their own for couple of weeks even if they get admission.

  7. When and how do I pay my fees if I get selected?

    The fees should be paid in one instalment. It can be paid through DD or through Bank Challan at Bank of Maharashtra, Univ. Branch, Pune. Details of the amount and the last date of payment will be given in the admission letter.

  8. Can I work while doing the course?

    A clear NO. This is a full time course and we discourage working students.

  9. When do I opt for my specialization?

    The specialization is in the second year i.e. from third semester. Students are free to choose their specialization..
